Lust or Bust | Holiday Collections 2017 | Pat McGrath, Smashbox, Becca, Hourglass, LaMer and CoverFX

Lust or Bust (1)

It’s Lust or Bust time again, cause beauty brands have been pumping out the gifts sets this year like crazy so there is a lot to cover. In today’s post we will be looking at Pat McGrath’s new collection, Smashbox, more from Becca, Hourglass, La Mer and Cover FX.

So much to talk about! Let’s get started.

I want to start off with Pat McGrath Labs because her new products are stunning. These are not really Holiday launches as I believe there are not limited edition, but they are new and freaking gorgeous so I want to talk about them. I am a huge fan of Pat McGrath’s work and her aesthetic. This collection really stands out for me because it has a strong Cyberpunk vibe with an infusion of luxury. It’s very Bladerunner.

Mothership I Eyeshadow Palette – Subliminal

Mothership 1 is a stunning palette that is on my wishlist for sure. At $125, this is a luxury palette and most of probably have dupes in our collections. I know I have dupes for this one but it doesn’t stop me from lusting after it. The packaging for these palettes are bad ass, and I like the shade arranges she chose.

In this predominately cool-toned palette, you have a mix of metallics, mattes and duo chrome. Some of the stand out shades for me are Violet VR and Astral White. This looks like a palette you could really get creative with. All 3 of these are inspiring to me.

This palette contains:
Eyeshadows in

  • Skinshow Nude (champagne platinum)
  • Ultimate Taupe (soft beige brown)
  • Lilac Dusk (muted lavender)
  • Depth (ash brown)
  • Substance (cool beige brown)
  • Xtreme Black (ultimate black)
  • Pale Gold 002 (cool platinum gold)
  • Astral White (White with blue flash)
  • VR Violet (pinky violet duochrome)
  • Blitz Blue (vivid sapphire)

Mothership II Eyeshadow Palette – Sublime

Mothership II is a warmer toned palette with more rich jewel tones. Again, I feel like I have dupes but I still want it. Xtreme Black is repeated in this palette which works as it’s handy shade to have and odds are not all of us are going to get all 3 of these for one reason or another. A few standouts in this palette are Rose Dusk, Astral Ghost Orchid, VR Nectar and Blitz Emerald.

This palette contains:
Eyeshadows in

  • Skinshow Glow (champagne pink pearl)
  • Copper Toned (soft reddish brown)
  • Iconic (neutral bronze gold)
  • Rose Dusk (soft reddish mauve)
  • Dark (rich warm brown),
  • Xtreme Black (ultimate black)
  • Bronze 005 (metallic warm brown)
  • Astral Ghost Orchid (white iridescent with pink)
  • VR Nectar (peachy pink with gold pearl)
  • Blitz Emerald (blackened green with lilac pearl)

Mothership III Eyeshadow Palette – Subversive

Mothership III is the one I would pass on personally if I were to buy these as most these shades aren’t colors I am drawn to. There are two shades in here I do like though, Black Metal and Gigabyte. There are again some repeats here too, Xtreme Black and Astral Ghost Orchid.

This palette contains:
Eyeshadows in

  •  Skinshow Fever (champagne gold pearl)
  • Black Metal (gunmetal black with silver pearl)
  • Lazarus (warm pinky brown)
  • Deep Shade (dark warm brown)
  • Night Creature (deep magenta)
  • Xtreme Black (ultimate black)
  • Gigabyte (antiqued green gold)
  • Astral Ghost Orchid (white iridescent with pink flash)
  • VR Pink (peachy pink with gold pearl)
  • Blitz Amethyst (deep purple with blue pearl)

6 Permagel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil

She also launched a collection of eyeliner pencils in 5 shades. 3 matte shades, and 2 metallics.

Permagel Ultra Lip Pencil

The Permagel Lip Pencils are also new and coordinate with the lipstick collections.

Lastly from Pat McGrath are the lipsticks which are beautiful all around, from shades to packaging.

LuxeTrance Lipstick

The LuxeTrance Lipstick is a satin finish formula in a variety of amazing shades. Not all of the shades are in the swatch picture, unfortunately. Like the eyeshadows, I know I have dupes of most the shades, but it doesn’t stop me wanting these.

MatteTrance Lipstick

These launched a few months ago but I wanted to include them too because the shades are gorgeous and I want every single one. LOL!

Now for Smashbox which has quite a bit of new stuff for Holiday and most of it is pretty great. I am really into these sets.

Create & Transform Master Class Palette

First up is the Create & Transform Master Class Palette which launched a couple of months ago but I am including it because it is a cool palette and there are some new launches that fit with it.

This is a pretty cool palette. It catches my eye everytime I am in Sephora. You get a great value here for $65 and it’s something different than your typical face and eye palette. Not only do you get 3 Lipsticks in nice shades, not in my favorite format but still 3 really good shades and you get 3 Lipstick Transformers allowing you to mix your own custom shades. For the face, you have a contour, highlight, and bronzer as well as 2 blushes and 2 Cheek Transformers.  As for eyeshadows, you get 10 shades, plus 6 Eyeshadow Transformers. The eyeshadow shades are on trend with warmer undertones.

This palette is super versatile and looks like fun to play with to me. You can get really creative with it and it also comes with tips and tricks on how to get the most out of it.

I also want to mention, the packaging is great too as it’s removable compacts and not a giant palette.

This palette contains:

  • 10 x  Photo Op Eyeshadows in Vanilla (matte warm ivory), Washed Out (shimmer pale pink), Nude (matte light brown), Hazelnut (matte mid-tone brown), Armor (shimmer silver), So Spicy (shimmer mid-tone orange), Tailfeather (shimmer teal), Over Baked (shimmer wine), Plummy (matte red-purple), Night Shoot (shimmer black)
  • 6 x Eyeshadow Transformers in Bewitched (shimmer white), Dial Up (iridescent yellow), Filtered (iridescent peach), Strange Magic (iridescent pink), Say What? (iridescent purple), Spectral (iridescent blue)
  • 3 x Be Legendary Lipsticks in Audition (neutral rose), Red Rage (blue red cream), and Witchy (deep burgundy)
  • 3 x  Lipstick Transformers in Bankrolled (cool grey cream), Double Take (iridescent purple shimmer), and Fiery (rose gold sparkle)
  • 2 x Powder Blushes in Guava (light coral) and Rosy (matte cool pink)
  • 2 x  Cheek Transformers in Amp It (iridescent cool pink shimmer highlight) and Fuse Blown (iridescent coral shimmer highlight)
  • Contour, bronze, and highlight

Photo Strip Eyeshadow Palette

Adding on the Masterclass Palette you have the Photo Strip Eyeshadow Palette which is more neutral shades than what you get in the Masterclass. It has a mix of finishes and warm and cool undertones. I like the dusty mauve shades but on a whole, I could pass on this one.

This palette contains:
Photo Op Eyeshadows in

  • Moonstone (opal)
  • Bliss (pale golden beige)
  • Deco (shimmery pink gold)
  • Nectar (soft matte peach)
  • Penny (shimmery orange peach)
  • Sandstorm (soft golden shimmer)
  • Rose (shimmery rosey pink)
  • Antique (dirty plum gray)
  • Mink (sparkle gray purple)
  • Vintage (purple black)

Photo Strip Highlighting Palette

Next up is the Photostrip Highlighting Palette. In these you get 2 formulas, 2 are Spotlight Highlighters and 3 are Soft Lights Highlighters. Some of the shades I think look more like shimmery blushes. I’m not into this one either but it’s pretty and could work well on deeper skin tones.

This set contains:

  • 2 x  Spotlight Highlighters in Turn It On Pearl (shimmer neutral yellow), Crank It Up Pearl (shimmer neutral pink)
  • 3 x  Soft Lights Highlighters in Pearls Gone Wild (white with red pearl), Wicked Switch (warm shimmer coral), Peachy Sheen (shimmer coral)

Now we have more “exciting” launches from Becca. Am I the only one who is over their palettes?

Après Ski Glow Collection: Glow Face Palette

First up is the Apres Ski Glow Collection which includes, 3 Shimmering skin perfecters, a matte blush, luminous blush, and bronzer. This isn’t a bad palette. I’m being biased because I could use a 3 who things in the palette on myself and I’m just not a fan of the Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighters. This one is an easy pass for me. I mean, it does look like the last few palettes they have launched right?

  • Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Icicle (cool, icy prismatic frost)
  • Mineral Blush in Winter Berry (natural rosy blush)
  • Sunlit Bronzer in Bronzed Bondi (medium amber)
  • Luminous Blush in Blushed Copper
  • Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Opal (golden opal pearl)
  • Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Rose Quartz

Glow on the Go Highlighter Set

This is a good little set if you are looking to give the Shimmering Skin Perfectors Pressed and Liquid a try for a good price at $20. They have this set in 2 color options too, Opal or Champagne Pop.

This set contains:

Opal Set:

  • Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal (golden opal pearl)
  • Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight Wand in Opal (golden opal pearl)

Champagne Pop Set:

  • Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop (soft white gold with pinky peach undertones)
  • Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight Wand in Champagne Pop (soft white gold with pinky peach undertones)

Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter Gradient Glow

Last from Becca we have the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Gradient Glow. This is a cute idea, and with the cult following the Shimmering Skin Perfectors have I can see the appeal. Not something I personally would get but it’s a cute idea having a variety of the Shimmering Skin Perfectors in one compact where ideally you could use individually or swirled together.

  • Bronzed Amber (pearlized glow)
  • Moonstone (pale gold)
  • Opal (golden opal pearl)
  • Rose Gold (soft gold infused w/ rose tones)
  • Topaz (golden bronze pearl)

Now for some crazy expensive makeup and skincare from La Mer. I’m including these few products because they are limited edition holiday packaging and I believe the Illuminating Powder is for holiday. The prices are pretty insane. No way in hell will I pay $60 for a damn lip balm.  You gotta be joking mah ass?! $130 for a highlighter… I just rolled my eyes so hard I pulled a muscle.

Anyway, I know their skincare is on point and I wanted to mention they have some pretty good sets this year so it’s a great time to get a deal on some really luxe skincare products over at Nordstrom.

Now for a brand I love. Hourglass.

Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Palette

From Hourglass we have the Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Palette.  The Strobe Powders offer a soft highlight, not blinding, highlight on fleek highlight, but a beautiful glow that won’t overwhelm the face. I believe these the shades in this palette are formulated to be a bit shinier then the regular strobe powders The shades are exclusive to this palette as well. This one is a lust for me for sure. I absolutely adore Hourglass products, the quality is well worth the price in my opinion.

This palette contains:

Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Powder in

  • Absolute Strobe Light,
  • Pure Strobe Light,
  • Lucent Strobe Light

Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3

Another definite lust for me is the Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3. Yes, please. I have Dim Light and Diffused Light already and love them so much, I would love to have backups in this palette. The Hourglass blushes are probably some of the best blushes I have ever used to again have 2 new shades is a win, and Luminous Bronze Light is my holy grail bronzer so again a back up is welcome. Hypnotic Strobe looks like a beautiful shade too. I just really want this. LOL.

This palette contains:

  • Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light, Diffused Light
  • Ambient Lighting Blush in Surreal Halo, Pure Effect
  • Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light
  • Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Hypnotic Strobe Light

Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick + Veil Mineral Primer Customizable Set

Here are two products I have been dying to try. The Mineral Veil primer and the Foundation Stick from Hourglass. The foundation alone retails for $46 alone so you get a deal with the primer included while not full sized, I think the foundation is though. You can pick your shade on the Sephora website too.

This set contains:

  • Veil Mineral Primer
  • Varnish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick

Confession Refillable Lipstick Set

And last from Hourglass is the Confession Refillable Lipstick Set. In this, you get 3 shades of the Confession lipstick and the case which just looks fucking cool. The shades in the set are gorgeous too. While you don’t get a whole lot of product for the price when you buy these separately at $34, refills at $22 in the set you are getting a good deal and these are full sized. I want!

This set contains:
Confession Ultra Slim High-Intensity Refillable Lipstick in My One Desire (dusty mauve), True Love Means (pink nude), You Are My (medium rose brown)

Almost done. Lastly, we have Cover FX.

Custom Enhancer Drops Set

The Custom Enhancer Drops set is a $50 value for $42, and you get a great sampling of the Enhancer Drops. This is a set I would love to get and try all of these shades.

This set contains:
Custom Cover Drops in Celestial, Halo, Rose Gold, Moonlight

Perfect Highlighting Palette

And lastly, the Perfect Highlighting Palette. I haven’t tried their pressed powders but this looks like a nice sampling of shades to have in one’s collection.   I like most the shades in it and the price isn’t too bad for 6 shades. Cover FX Perfect Highling Palettes they usually have cost $42. In this, you have 6 shades for less, so I am thinking they are smaller pan sizes.

  • Blossom (soft, pearlescent pink)
  • Celestial (glistening pearl)
  • Gilded (brilliant warm bronze)
  • Golden Peach (pearlescent peachy pink)
  • Prism (holographic, multi-dimensional)
  • Rose Gold (rose-infused gold)

And that’s it for today, don’t forget to check out my other posts all about Holiday Collections below and leave me your thoughts. I’ll see ya tomorrow!.
